Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has joined the live lineup of Pearl Jam.
Klinghoffer made his debut at Pearl Jam’s headlining set at the Sea.Hear.Now festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on Saturday, September 18. According to reports, the guitarist accompanied the band for the entirety of their 20-song headline set, playing guitar, percussion and singing backing vocals.
According to Consequence, a representative for Pearl Jam confirmed that Klinghoffer has been added as a touring musician, and the festival performance was not a one-off affair. The guitarist was a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019, replacing and then later replaced by John Frusciante.
During the headline set at the festival, Pearl Jam performed a number of songs from their latest album, Gigaton, live for the first time. The band also paid tribute to late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts on “Waiting On A Friend,” which interrelated into “Wishlist.”
